St Giles Church, West Bridgford's oldest building.
Set in a tranquil churchyard, St Giles is only two minutes' walk from Central Avenue.
The church is open for services only but visitors are welcome to explore and enjoy the churchyard. If local history interests you, find out about the grave of West Bridgford's first WWI casualty, Rifleman Albert Charles Lacey.
From the top of Central Avenue, follow Bridgford Road past Escabeche then Fotomargo, turning right opposite Lutterell Hall's entrance, onto Church Drive.
Walking through the churchyard, past the church, will bring you out onto Stratford Road. From here, turning right will return you to Bridgford Road, by its cluster of bars and eateries and within sight of Central Avenue and Bridgford Park.
If starting from the Gordon Road / Central Avenue junction, turn along Rectory Road, past Forde's and Grounded Kitchen, right onto Bridgford Road and past Lutterell Hall, to reach Church Drive.
If a visit to the churchyard leaves you feeling rested and ready for a five to ten minute stroll, you could continue along Church Drive, left down Stratford Road, right then immediately left onto the Edwalton Avenue path, which brings you out on Rectory Road. Cross over and turn right, following the pavement round to the left and you'll soon spot the start of Melton Road's long stretch of interesting independent shops and cafes.
